(ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Feb. 27, 2025) – Thanks to a generous donation from Arconic Foundation, Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences has enhanced student education and training with a state-of-the-art energized radiography lab, designed to simulate real clinical environments and improve hands-on learning.
With expert faculty guidance, Trinity College students gain practical experience using X-ray equipment while mastering essential positioning techniques and safety protocols. The lab provides a controlled environment where students can build confidence and refine their skills before entering actual clinical settings.
The project was funded through a $30,000 donation from Arconic Foundation to update the former radiography lab at Trinity College.
"As a manufacturing plant, we understand the importance of skilled professionals in every field,” says Jeffrey Weida, Vice President of Manufacturing at Arconic. “Supporting hands-on training for nurses and radiographers aligns with our commitment to STEM education and community development. By upgrading this facility, we are helping ensure that students receive top-tier training in a safe and controlled environment that will eventually improve health outcomes for all.”
“This represents a significant step forward in training the next generation of skilled healthcare professionals,” says Lacey Lake, MBA, Radiography Program Director at Trinity College. “By offering a realistic environment for practice, we ensure students develop the technical proficiency and safety skills needed to excel in patient care from day one.”
Radiographers play a crucial role in healthcare, working alongside physicians to diagnose injuries and illnesses using medical imaging procedures such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs and ultrasounds. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of radiologic and MRI technologists is projected to grow by 6% from 2023 to 2033, outpacing the average for all occupations.
“We recognize the increasing demand for skilled healthcare professionals nationwide, and here at Trinity College, we are committed to meeting that demand,” says Tracy Poelvoorde, PhD, Trinity College Chancellor. “With this real-world immersive training, our graduates are fully prepared to provide high-quality care.
